Jiangsu uses carbon dioxide to make degradable plastics

The new carbon dioxide-prepared polyurethane foam technology developed by Jiangsu Yuhua Jinlong Green Chemical Co., Ltd. has passed the appraisal organized by the State Environmental Protection Administration. This product can be used as a buffer packaging material and completely biodegraded after disposal.

Jinlong Green Chemical Co., Ltd. uses carbon dioxide gas in the carbon dioxide gas field in East China as the main raw material, and adjusts and copolymerizes with epoxide to obtain aliphatic polycarbonate polyols and polyurethane foams. The prepared polyurethane foam can be completely biodegradable without leaving harmful substances. Tested by the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, it is degraded 33% a month, superior to all synthetic polymer materials and blends with starch, with high strength, high modulus and so on.

It is estimated that by 2005, the demand for plastic packaging products in China will reach 5.5 million tons, accounting for 22.0% of the total demand. At present, many biodegradable packaging materials use a variety of chemical catalysts, but they have deviated from the original intention of environmental protection.
