Taking the statistics from 1993 to 1995 as an example, the growth rate of LWC paper is 8.5%, which is more than double the growth rate of other paper species in the world (about 4%) during the same period. China's domestic LWC paper industry started relatively late. Since the 1980s, several in-house coating devices have been introduced from Europe. Coupled with domestic self-control, a total of more than 10 production lines were combined. At that time, the total annual production capacity was 50,000 tons, which was far from meeting market needs. Now China's LWC paper has a production capacity of 700,000 to 800,000 tons. However, due to the fact that the product market is still in the stage of promotion and extension, and some product quality cannot meet the requirements of users, the actual production in the country has basically remained at 200,000 in the past two years. Although the domestic LWC paper production capacity is between 700,000 and 800,000 tons, many products do not pass quality, resulting in a large number of foreign LWC papers flowing into China. For this reason, many domestic manufacturers that have the ability to produce LWC papers, when they see so little import volume of LWC paper, believe that it will take time for the paper to become popular in the domestic market, and thus switch to other paper types.

In the next few years, with the development of China's national economy and the improvement of people's living standards, LWC paper will be widely used in the printing of advertisements, magazines, catalogues, and press inserts. Many papermaking companies in China have seen the prospects of LWC paper, and they have launched LWC paper projects. For example, Huatai will launch a 200,000-ton LWC paper project in 2003, and Shandong Yinhe Paper will launch a 100,000-ton LWC paper project in 2004. The Group will start production of 200,000 tons of LWC paper in Jiangxi Province. Most of these projects use imported equipment to produce high-grade LWC paper. It can be foreseen that the future development of domestic LWC paper is limitless as long as it is funded and technically guaranteed.
