West Introduces TrakStar Corks without Silicone Coatings

At the end of 2004, West Pharmaceutical Services launched the TrokStar stopper with no silicone coating. Because it contains no silicone, TrakStar can be processed directly on the bottling line. While glass generally contains silicone, prefilled syringe fillers often focus on minimizing the amount of silicone rather than completely eliminating the silicone. TrakStar eliminates the silicone needed for plunger feeds, providing significant benefits to the above users.

West also produces a FluroTec coated plunger that reduces silicone usage. The plug is uniquely configured to evacuate the concave end of the bottom of the syringe barrel. The plunger tip is coated with FluroTec paint, and the elastomer ribs are tightly attached to the glass to form a seal. Because the sealing structure meets the user's application habits, users who are familiar with pre-filled syringes but require improved performance can easily adapt to this product.
