Pollution in the packaging industry can not be ignored

The packaging industry is one of the largest polluting and wasteful industries. According to statistics, garbage from the packaging industry in U.S. urban waste accounts for about 35% or more, while in Japan it is as high as 45%. Packaging waste in the European Community also accounts for 30% to 50% of urban garbage. China still has no reliable statistical data, but it is estimated that it is at least 15% or more. Moreover, this ratio is still showing a rising trend.

Developed countries have put forward "green" requirements for packaging long ago. However, the packaging itself has a "non-green" characteristic, which is mainly manifested in its disposable use. In addition, the packaging materials are mainly glass, nylon, plastic, paper, stainless steel, etc. They are either hard-degradable materials or waste resource materials. The situation of foreign “greening” of packaging materials is better, mainly focusing on the separation, recycling and recycling of packaging waste.

However, due to restrictions on recycling technologies, public awareness, and poor policy implementation, China’s large amount of packaging waste, especially plastic packaging, has been abandoned without being harmlessly treated, which has become one of the important factors that bother the city and harm human health.

There is another important reason why packaging materials cannot be recycled properly. That is to say, the packaging industry structure and product structure in China are extremely unreasonable, and packaging materials and packaging products have not yet reached the requirements of large-scale production. Whether it is paper-making enterprises, plastic resin production companies, glass packaging companies, or packaging products processing companies, there are many small and medium-sized enterprises. They are unlikely to sort, recycle, and re-use packaging waste during product development and production. Recycling included in the plan.

The inability to scale production has also led to the emergence of another problem: These SMEs are often limited by the level of technology, resulting in many environmentally friendly packaging materials or auxiliary materials difficult to develop and put into use, many foreign countries have developed and used technology for many years It is difficult to be introduced. At present, a large number of water-based inks are used internationally (this is a green product), and heavy metals are restricted in plastic additives. However, these new products and new technologies have not been popularized in our country.

In some countries in Europe and the United States where forest resources are relatively abundant, paper products occupy a large proportion in packaging materials, which is about 40%. This is because paper products have the advantages of being easily degraded and easily printed. However, in China, due to the lack of forest resources, using paper products as packaging materials is not a "green" move. In contrast, it seems that we should focus more on developing glass products as packaging materials. Glass products are rich in materials, easy to recycle and reuse, have no pollution to the environment, and are hygienic because of their good chemical stability.
