Glass bottle shortage companies are forced to move out

At the wine trade fair held in Montpellier, France, Jean-Claude Mas, the head of Domaines Paul Mas, in the Landau region of southern France, said: “The biggest problem facing us is the supply of glass bottles. We cannot find enough. Bottle filling wine.” Last year, Domaines Paul Mas winery sold 9 million bottles.

Mas added: “Currently, it is not a matter of choosing lightweight eco bottles or regular glass bottles. This month our best-selling Sauvignon Blanc wines were sold out and there were 36,000 bottles of orders. If bottle shortages persist, we must consider using them. Dark bottled rosé wine."

According to statistics from last year, the shortage of European bottles was as high as 1.5 billion, and the production of wines in the Rangdok region since 2000 has become more and more serious.

David Rowledge of Randall Alchemy Wines said that he is ready to relocate the filling line to the United Kingdom. He said: "Landoke wine sales volume of the company last year was 1.7 million bottles, and this year it will complete the production of 2 million bottles." At present, David has reached an agreement with British bottling manufacturer Broadlands to bottle the product in the UK. On the one hand, it solved the problem of insufficient supply of bottles and directly supplied them to British supermarkets, reducing the "carbon footprint" of the transportation process.

David said: “When I went to the UK Supermarket Wine Purchasing Manager, the first sentence they greeted was 'What kind of environmental protection policy will you implement this year?'” Ironically, it is lightweight, environmentally friendly and cheap. Bottles are extremely short and producers have to use overweight and expensive glass bottles. David said: "Another wine merchant's choice is to import wine bottles from China, but that obviously does not meet the requirements of environmental protection. Of course, not all French wineries can set the bottling line abroad. I was in France. Without its own bottling plant, it doesn't matter where it moves."

Franck Crouzet, head of communications at the Castel Group, said at the conference: "The bottle shortage this year will continue."

Of course, another solution to the shortage of bottles is to change the packaging, using environmentally friendly, lightweight aluminum bottles, Tetra Pak, PET plastic bottles, but manufacturers believe that it is very important for consumers to see the color of the wine, so glass bottles The packaging of other wines has not been popularized.
