NBD Nano technologies (Boston, MA) recently introduced an injection molding grade additive that provides a highly water-resistant, dust-proof, stain-resistant, mud-resistant, and ice-resistant surface. The company is about to bring the RepelShell line to market, and this additive is the first in the series. Initial applications include waterproof and stain resistant sports shoes, electronics, self-cleaning non-woven fabrics and stain-resistant textiles. Its formulation consists of functional molecules and is incorporated into additives during the plastic compounding process and has been patented. The mixed molecules of NBD contain both organic and inorganic elements to meet the required structural and thermal properties.
