In spite of this, the company also showed the PlateWriter 4200 to the industry at drupa, an iCTP (inkjet-based computer-to-plate) system for small print shops.
The system uses a custom Roland SP-3000 inkjet engine driven by a Xitron RIP to jet “liquid dots†onto the plate surface. The printer engine is equipped with post-processing equipment for drying liquid dots so that it adheres well to the surface of the printing plate. Its configured gluing station can provide a protective adhesive layer. The PlateWriter 4200 can be operated in daylight conditions in an office environment, imaging for mesh-like, anodized, and non-photosensitive plates, including both open and four open formats.
Although the PlateWriter 4200 uses inkjet, some experts still call it the second-generation technology. When the PlateWriter 4200 is combined with inkjet technology, its plate does not require coating and chemical/environmental processing.
The cost of using Liquid's outlets is approximately $0.40 per square inch, achieving 30% to 35% coverage. The complete system, including RIP, costs approximately $35,000 in total. The PlateWriter 4200 is intended for commercial promotion at this year's Graph Expo.
